Cornald Maas is niet verbaasd dat Nederland alsnog afziet van deelname aan het Eurovisie Songfestival van volgend jaar in Bulgarije. "Dit was een onvermijdelijk besluit van de NPO", vertelt de presentator aan NU.nl.

Nederland doet volgend jaar uiteindelijk dan toch niet mee aan het Eurovisiesongfestival. De Nederlandse omroep NPO heeft vandaag na overleg met het College van Omroepen besloten om de pauzeknop in te drukken in de voorbereidingen. "Daarmee komt deelname aan de komende editie te vervallen", klinkt het.

Er wordt toch geen Nederlandse deelnemer gestuurd naar het Eurovisie Songfestival. Dat heeft de NPO bekendgemaakt na overleg met omroepen. Volgens de NPO is er "onvoldoende draagvlak" om volgend jaar mee te doen aan het liedjesfestijn. Jet de Ranitz, de voorzitter van de raad van bestuur, zegt dat er de afgelopen periode gesprekken zijn gevoerd met omroepen
