In view of the historic Hasanamba Temple festival in Hassan, the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), in collaboration with the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and the Hassan district administration, has launched around 12 tour packages.
The doors of the temple opened on Thursday, and devotees will be allowed for darshan of the goddess from Friday onwards. A senior official from KSTDC said, “The doors of the temple open once a year and this year, it is open up to November 11. During this season, lakhs of tourists including those from other states living in Bengaluru and Mysuru visit this temple. Therefore, our tour packages have been announced not only to promote tourism but boost the local economy of Hassan.”
Under these packages, KSTDC and KSRTC will operate buses from Bengaluru, Mysuru and local places in Hassan. The official explained, “We have currently launched two packages from our side on the occasion of the Hasanamba temple festival. Our buses will operate from Bengaluru and Mysuru. The Bengaluru-Hassan-Bengaluru package is priced at ₹2,300 per person including ₹1,000, the price of the ticket for darshan of the Hasanamba temple. Tourists or devotees can visit Narsimha temple, Nuggehalli Nageshwara temple and finally Hasanamba temple.”
The bus operating from Bengaluru will start at 6 a.m. from Yeshwantpur and return at 10 p.m. Similarly, the KSTDC bus from Mysuru is priced at ₹2,150 per person including the ticket price to the temple. Tourists will get to visit the Hasanamba temple along with the Hoysaleshwara temple in Halebidu and the Chennakeshava temple in Belur before returning to Mysuru.
At the same time, KSRTC has announced 10 bus packages under which Karnataka Sarige, premium AC and Ashwamedha buses are operating, taking tourists to various sightseeing spots, historical monuments and seven temples (’Sapta Maatrikas’) associated with the Hasanamba temple in Hassan. The prices of KSRTC tour packages differ for adults and children in the age group of 5 to 12 years. While the price range for adults starts at ₹500 and goes up to ₹2,500, ticket prices for children start at ₹275 and go up to ₹2,200.
Private tours and travels fully booked
Meanwhile, private tour and travel operators who provide cars, tempo travellers and buses that can accommodate 30 to 40 people have separate packages during this season.
Pruthvi Gowda, a private tour and travel operator, said, “The prices of private cars, TTs and buses vary according to the demand and availability of drivers on a particular day. During the Hasanamba temple festival, most travel operators are fully booked. For instance, November 1 and 2 are weekends and government holidays are completely booked. Tuesdays and Fridays are two days when we are completely booked.”
Mr. Pruthvi added, “The price for a car that can occupy four people is charged somewhere around ₹3,500 to ₹4,500 per day. This includes the diesel money and toll charges. Drivers take people around ten different places including Hasanamba temple, Belur, Halebidu, boating in Yagachi backwaters, Shravanabelagola, Shettihalli Rosary Church, Manjarabad fort, Bisle Ghat and others; it takes one entire day. If there are around 10 to 15 people, then operators charge between ₹5,000 and ₹8,000 for one full day.”
