Traffic is building up on State Highway one north of Auckland, after a truck broke down in the Dome Valley.

The northbound lane was partially blocked on Friday afternoon, as people were beginning to head away for the long weekend.

While the road was still open in both directions, NZTA said congestion was building on the motorway leading up to the Warkworth roundabout.

People should delay their journey or use a detour via State Highway 16 through Mangakura, NTZA said.
