The All Progressives Congress in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State has begun mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu and the party’s governorship candidate, Obafemi Hamzat, ahead of the 2027 elections, using the council administration’s infrastructure and social projects as part of its campaign pitch.
The council chairman, Kehinde Oloyede, kicked off the campaign at Owoseni Primary School, Oshodi, at the weekend, urging party members to take the message of the APC’s achievements to communities across the local government.
Oloyede linked the council’s capacity to deliver projects to improved revenue allocations from the Federal Government following the removal of the fuel subsidy, saying the increased funds available to the three tiers of government should translate into visible improvements in residents’ lives.
“As beneficiaries of this improved revenue environment, we must acknowledge the federal government’s efforts and ensure that available resources translate into tangible dividends for our people,” he said.
The chairman cited the completion of more than 90 roads, construction of 115 boreholes and installation of solar-powered streetlights in over 50 locations as achievements of his administration, which he said demonstrated the impact of improved funding at the grassroots.
He also listed the upgrading of three primary healthcare centres, the near completion of the Ogunlana Health Centre and the development of a new primary school at St Paul Primary School among the council’s projects.
The campaign kick-off featured prayers for Tinubu, Hamzat and other APC candidates, including the House of Representatives candidate for Oshodi-Isolo, Taiwo Ayedun, and the House of Assembly candidate for Oshodi-Isolo Constituency I, Mayowa Alakija.
But beyond the campaign launch, Oloyede also sought to address party cohesion, appealing to members who had yet to accept the outcome of the primaries to join the reconciliation process and work for the party’s candidates.
He commended aspirants who stepped down in support of the party’s flagbearers, including Bashir Dawodu, Afeez Ipesa-Balogun, Bolaji Ariyo, Fasanya Abayomi, Iyere Lawrence, Foluke Daramola-Salako, Stephen Kayode Ogundipe and Bolanle Orija.
Oloyede urged party members to set aside personal ambitions and extend the campaign to every part of Oshodi-Isolo.
Ayedun pledged to protect the interests of constituents if elected to the House of Representatives, while Alakija promised legislation and policies focused on the needs of market women, students, youths and other grassroots groups.
Alakija said Oshodi needed representation driven by results and an understanding of the needs of residents, adding that he would pursue bills and policies that reflected good governance.
