The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has explained how candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions can check the approved O’Level and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) subject requirements for their preferred courses.

The board advised candidates to verify their subject combinations before choosing a course or making changes to their programmes, warning that good UTME scores and O’Level results do not automatically guarantee admission eligibility.

In an advisory shared through its JAMB Explained platform on X on Friday, the board noted that every institution has specific subject requirements for different academic programmes.

“Do you know that your subject combination might be the reason you don’t get admitted? You can have good scores in the UTME and O-Level results and still not be eligible for admission,” JAMB stated.

To avoid such challenges, the Board urged candidates to visit its Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS) portal at www.ibass.jamb.gov.ng to confirm the requirements for their preferred institutions and courses.

JAMB outlined the steps candidates should follow to access the information on the platform.

First, candidates are required to visit the IBASS website and click on the brochure section.

They should then select the option to view all institutions before using the institution filter to identify their preferred university, polytechnic or college of education.

The next step is to select the desired course and click on the “View Details” option to access the admission requirements.

According to the board, the details provided include the approved O’Level subject requirements and the UTME subject combination for the selected programme.

Candidates are advised to carefully examine the requirements, confirm that their O’Level subjects and grades meet the stipulated conditions and ensure that their UTME subject combination is correct.

The board stressed that checking these requirements before making admission choices would help candidates avoid mistakes that could affect their eligibility.

JAMB reiterated that candidates must meet the specific subject requirements of their chosen institutions and programmes, regardless of their performance in UTME and O’Level examinations.
