General secretary of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) R.S. Praveen Kumar has alleged that Telangana Overseas Manpower Company Ltd (TOMCOM), established in 2014 to facilitate employment to youth of Telangana overseas, was turned into “tom-scam.”
At a press conference held in Hyderabad, he said Minister for Labour and Employment G. Vivek had been promoting TOMCOM, promising jobs to the youth in other countries, but on the other hand, the unemployed were being cheated. The present government had issued a notification through TOMCOM for technical, warehouse, nursing, driving, mechatronics and other jobs in Germany.
Youth paid ₹4.1 lakh each
Several youth paid ₹4.1 lakh each to a third-party agency linked to the TOMCOM notification, and they were taught German at the Goethe-Institute in Hyderabad for six months. Signatures of those candidates were taken on the candidate agreement forms on which the name Fair Street company was printed without any mention of TOMCOM.
The candidates were later asked to pay ₹20,000 each for the B1 level exam in German and were sent to Chennai. After 100s had cleared the exam, not even 10 were sent to Germany for employment. After reaching Germany, they were not given technical jobs but were forced to do other sundry jobs. He demanded that a criminal case be registered against Fair Street, and the youth from whom money (₹4.1 lakh plus) was collected be returned, he said.
