Lucio’s for a new generation.
There’s a golden glow about Civico 47, sitting comfortably among the terrace houses of Paddington. Owner-chef Matteo Zamboni, who opened Civico on the site of the legendary Lucio’s in 2022, oversees his own carefully calibrated and artfully plated expression of Italian dining.
He’s a whiz at concentrating flavours, so there are no passengers in a dish of finger-length strozzapreti (all pasta is made on the premises) coated with a bisque-like sauce studded with fat pipis, or in just-warm strands of calamari, twirled over ribbons of zucchini with the gentle tingle of ’nduja.
Sommelier Luke Collard speaks fluent wine, so if he suggests a glass of Montepulciano with the slow-cooked brisket and carrot puree, do it. Even desserts are seasonally adjusted – red-wine quinces tumbling over a pillow of chocolate cake are as autumnal as the fallen leaves on the street.
