A cannabis shop selling cannabis infused sweets was raided after a couple complained to Bangkok police they passed out after eating some of them.

They also said their 2-year-old son appeared "dull" and had probably ingested a small amount. The couple live in Chanthaburi province.

Central Investigation Bureau chief Pol Lt Gen Nathasak Chaowanasai said consumer protection police and officials from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine executed a search warrant at a cannabis shop on Banthat Thong Road in Pathumwan district on Saturday.

The shop was suspected of being the source of the cannabis jellies. It distributed cannabis sweets in packages designed to resemble children’s sweets and advertised the product online.

The search found 90 unregistered packs of cannabis jellies. There was no Thai label on them. The price tags on the seized products totalled about 50,000 baht.

Police arrested a 26-year-old woman, identified only as Saowalak. She told police she had been employed there, selling cannabis jellies at 80 baht each to people, including foreign tourists, for over a year.

Officials will examine if the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) content in the products exceeded allowable limits.

FDA secretary-general Supattra Boonserm said parents should tell their children not to consume any food with cannabis content, and adults should not ingest any edibles with a THC content of more than 1.6 milligrammes per container.
