North Korea fired off at least one unidentified projectile on Wednesday, the South Korean military said, as Pyongyang continues to test weapons amid an ongoing row with Seoul.

Further details were not immediately available.

The Defense Ministry in Tokyo did not issue an alert about any North Korean missile launches, as it usually does with those that could pose a threat to Japan. It was not immediately clear if the weapon tested was artillery, a shorter-range ballistic missile or something different.

North-South tensions have soared in recent weeks over a landmine explosion along the two Koreas’ heavily fortified border.

Pyongyang has ramped up weapons tests in recent months, including one of a “dispersal warhead of a strategic cruise missile” that it announced Tuesday. That announcement came just days after it said it had fired off cluster-bomb warheads for its tactical ballistic missiles.

The North fired off around a dozen short-range ballistic missiles on Oct. 29, as part of a demonstration during leader Kim Jong Un’s visit to an exhibition on drone technology.
