KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several areas across six states and the Federal Territory of Putrajaya, expected to last until 2pm today.
The warning, issued in a statement at noon today, covers Pahang (Kuantan and Rompin), Selangor (Sepang, Kuala Langat, Klang, Petaling and Kuala Selangor), Putrajaya, and Johor (Kota Tinggi and Mersing).
In Sarawak, the affected areas are Mukah (Mukah, Dalat and Matu), Bintulu (Tatau and Bintulu), Sibu, Kapit (Song), Sri Aman (Lubok Antu) and Betong (Betong).
MetMalaysia said it issues such warnings when there are signs indicating thunderstorms with rain intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that are near or expected to occur for more than an hour.
“A thunderstorm warning is a short-term alert valid for a maximum of six hours for each release,” the department stated in its advisory.
