Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said on Saturday that Gulf security was an integral part of Egypt’s national security, calling for a regional early-warning and rapid-response system to prevent crises rather than simply manage them after they erupt.

Abdelatty made the remarks during a panel discussion on “Pillars of Regional Security” at the 22nd Manama Dialogue regional security summit in Bahrain, held from October 30 to November 1.

He said Egypt rejected and condemned attacks on Gulf states, warning that an escalation of military confrontation in the region threatened regional and international stability and could disrupt the global economy, as well as food and energy supply chains.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s statement did not specify which attacks or Gulf states Abdelatty was referring to.

Abdelatty outlined what he described as Egypt’s vision for a regional security framework based on the rule of law, the non-use of force and non-interference in states’ internal affairs, alongside greater regional ownership and shared responsibility for security.

He called for diplomacy supported by deterrence capabilities to resolve disputes and stressed the need to protect international navigation, energy supplies and critical infrastructure from threats that could disrupt global trade.

Abdelatty said lasting regional stability would also require a settlement of the Palestinian issue based on the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He reiterated Egypt’s rejection of the displacement of Palestinians, annexation and settlement activity.

He called on regional states to develop practical mechanisms to translate these principles into action, arguing that stronger security and stability would support economic and social development across the region.

Abdelatty added that current tensions underscored the need to shift from crisis management towards regional mechanisms capable of identifying risks early and responding before they escalate.
