The Council of Torah Sages meeting, which was expected to take place on Wednesday following reports ultra-Orthodox Shas party chairman Arye Deri had voiced his desire to resign, has been postponed.
Shas denied the claim of Deri's resignation as false in an afternoon statement.
According to Kikar Hashabbat, the council holds the position that Deri "is not permitted to resign from the leadership of Shas."
Deri's reported request to resign follows the party only receiving six seats in the 26th Knesset elections, an almost 50% drop from the previous election.
This is a developing story.
