KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 — Preliminary laboratory tests on 43 petrol samples found water content below the minimum detection level, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said testing for water was given immediate priority, as a comprehensive analysis of all liquid properties and foreign contaminants would take more time.
“According to the preliminary report received from the Department of Chemistry dated October 29, 2026, all 43 samples analyzed recorded a water content of less than 0.05 per cent,” he said during Question Time.
“This figure falls well below the minimum threshold required for reporting, indicating no significant water contamination in the initial batch tested.”
The tests followed viral allegations that some petrol stations in Selangor and the northern states were selling contaminated RON95 that caused damage to cars. The claims first surfaced online last month and were later reported by the media.
Armizan said the remaining samples were still undergoing rigorous laboratory testing, and that a full report would be released to the public once the Department of Chemistry completes its analysis.
He said the first formal complaint was lodged with his ministry (KPDN) on October 3, prompting targeted inspections in Selangor and Perak. Perak received 25 complaints involving various petrol stations in the state throughout October.
As of October 31, inspections had covered eight petrol station brands across eight states, as well as three oil company depots.
A total of 262 RON95 samples were collected — 259 from petrol stations and three from oil company depots, Armizan told Parliament. — Bernama
