Alan Dysert, known best for his role as Sean Cudahy on All My Children, has died, his wife Michele Dysert revealed in a Facebook post Sunday. He was 75.
“My heart is broken as I share that my beloved husband, Alan, passed away on October 23, 2026, Michele Dysert wrote. “While I am struggling to imagine life without him, I am forever grateful to have experienced what so many people spend their lives searching for — the love of a lifetime.”
His wife did not reveal a cause of death but in his 2023 autobiography, Lights, Camera, Cancer!, Alan revealed that he had been diagnosed with a “rare, aggressive and incurable cancer.” According to the book’s synopsis, he’d undergone “four major cancer-related surgeries, one recurrence, many rounds of chemotherapy and 29 CT scans to date.”
Dysert appeared as Sean Cudahy in 79 episodes of All My Children, from 1980-1990, a character described as a devious yet humorous con man and villain, who contrasted sharply with his brother, good guy Tom Cudahy (played by Richard Shoberg).
He also worked on several movies, including Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie, and was an executive producer, co-exec producer or associate producer on films including The Grift, Becoming Jesse Tate, The Senator, My Many Sons, and just this year in The Legend of Van Dorn.
“Alan had an incredible gift for storytelling, a wonderful sense of humor, an adventurous spirit, and a personality that could fill any room,” Michele Dysert wrote. “His life was filled with remarkable experiences, fascinating people, and enough stories for several lifetimes. And he loved sharing them.”

My heart is broken as I share that my beloved husband, Alan, passed away on October 23, 2026. While I am struggling to imagine life without him, I am forever grateful to have experienced what so many people spend their lives searching for — the love of a lifetime.
Alan lived an extraordinary life. From his humble beginnings as a farm boy in Illinois, he went on to become an actor, musician, writer, filmmaker, producer, and beloved acting teacher. Many knew him from his years on All My Children, while thousands of others knew him as the teacher and mentor who encouraged them to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams. He was a life changer!!
Alan had an incredible gift for storytelling, a wonderful sense of humor, an adventurous spirit, and a personality that could fill any room. His life was filled with remarkable experiences, fascinating people, and enough stories for several lifetimes. And he loved sharing them!
But behind all those accomplishments was the man I was fortunate enough to call my husband, my partner, and my best friend.
We shared a love that was truly special. We loved traveling together, laughing together, and simply being together. We never needed a room full of people or an elaborate plan to enjoy ourselves. We genuinely loved each other’s company. Even after all our years together, life with Alan was never boring.
Alan faced more than his share of health challenges over the years, yet he continued to approach life with determination, humor, and gratitude. He fought hard for the life he loved, and I was honored to stand beside him through it all.
Several years ago, Alan wrote his autobiography, Lights, Camera, Action and he shared – “It’s been a great ride and I am grateful for every bit of it.” He also wrote that he wanted his children, grandchildren, family, and friends to celebrate his life rather than mourn his passing.
That was Alan. He understood that life was an adventure, that tomorrow was never guaranteed, and that the greatest treasures weren’t things, but the people and experiences that made life meaningful.
So today, even through my tears, I want to honor his wishes and celebrate the remarkable life he lived. To his sons, Cody and Cooper, all of our incredible family, his friends, his students, and everyone whose life he touched — I hope you’ll remember Alan with a smile, share a favorite story, and celebrate the joy he brought into this world.
And to my sweet Alan — thank you for loving me, for making me laugh, for the adventures, the memories, and the beautiful life we built together. I would choose you all over again, without hesitation.
My heart is broken, but I am so thankful for the love of a lifetime.I will love you always.
