Bus replacements will be in place for all Metlink train services in the capital over Labour Weekend, including services to Wairarapa.

Trains will be replaced by buses on all lines from Saturday, 24 October to Monday, 26 October to allow Kiwirail crews to carry out infrastructure upgrades.

The work will include track renewals, tunnel work and preparations for a new substation at Naenae.

The substation is one of the several planned to increase power supply across the rail network, supporting service improvements and the introduction of a new battery electric Tuhono trains from 2029.

Rail replacement buses will follow the usual weekend train timetable on Saturday and Sunday and the Sunday timetable on Labour Day Monday.

At Wellington Railway Station, replacement buses will arrive at and depart from Platform 10.

Off-peak fares will apply throughout Labour Weekend.

Wellington Regional Council has advised passengers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and to check the Metlink website or app for the latest information.
