Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Fansan Yamma, have killed three suspected terrorists and recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and a motorcycle during an encounter in Kaduna State, while also recovering 28 cows and 13 sheep from suspected cattle rustlers in Kano State.
The operations, conducted on October 29 and 30, were carried out in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State and the Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Acting Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, Captain Tamuno Sinivie, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.
Sinivie said troops of Sector 1 came under attack by armed terrorists on October 29 while conducting a fighting patrol along the Shadow–Old Kuyello Road in Birnin Gwari.
He said the troops responded with superior firepower, repelled the attack and pursued the fleeing assailants.
“Subsequent pursuit and exploitation of the area led to the neutralisation of three terrorists and the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, three rounds of ammunition and one motorcycle,” he said.
The military spokesman added that no casualties were recorded among the troops during the encounter.
In a separate operation on October 30, troops recovered 28 cows and 13 sheep from suspected cattle rustlers in Shanono town, Shanono Local Government Area, Kano State.
According to him, the suspected rustlers abandoned the animals and fled upon sighting the advancing troops during a routine patrol.
He said efforts were ongoing to hand over the recovered livestock to the appropriate authorities.
Sinivie reaffirmed the task force’s commitment to sustaining operations against terrorists and other criminal elements across the North-West.
He urged members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information to assist ongoing operations and restore lasting peace and security in the region.
