The Nigeria National League and Locker Room Bonus, supported by betPawa, have extended their corporate partnership for the 2026/2027 season with a package valued at N496.9m.

The renewed agreement is designed to place player welfare, dignity, and real-time recognition at the center of Nigerian domestic football across all 34 participating clubs and four conferences in the second-tier league.

Under the framework of the scheme, eligible squad members and technical staff receive match-win bonuses sent directly to their mobile phones via mobile money before leaving the dressing room.

The total seasonal partnership value of up to N496.9m covers direct match-win bonus funding, operational promotional support, and an earmarked N8m fund dedicated to recognizing standout individual players and clubs at the end of the season.

During the 2025/2026 regular season and Super Four tournament, the initiative executed over 5,000 direct mobile transactions totaling N289.7m, ensuring administrative bottlenecks are eliminated and equal bonus amounts are paid across both men’s and women’s competitions.

Chief Operating Officer of the NNL, Danlami Alanana, stated that the Locker Room Bonus player programme has significantly boosted overall competitiveness and player welfare across the division.

“It has also made the league very competitive. Everybody wants to win and therefore, you see there’s an enhancement of performance by the players. The coaches are also putting in their best to ensure that their team wins. So it has brought in so much competition among the players,” Alanana said.

Regional Manager for West and Southern Africa at betPawa, Nii Ashong Katai, emphasized the corporate intent behind the funding and transparent disbursement structure.

“Athlete welfare is central to betPawa. Through the Locker Room Bonus, we’re recognizing athletes’ efforts and extending direct support to more players, wherever they compete,” Katai stated.

The transaction framework is supported by identity verification and payment infrastructure via pawaPass and pawaPay to ensure financial support reaches the intended recipients without friction.

The 2026/2027 NNL campaign is scheduled to kick off on November 1, 2026.
