Kelechi Iheanacho has said he wants to become a Bursaspor legend, while helping the club win promotion to the Turkish Super Lig, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Nigerian striker has scored 16 goals in his first 12 league appearances for Bursaspor, who top the TFF First League. He has scored in every league game he has played, and is the first player in Turkish league football history to score in 12 consecutive league appearances.
The 30-year-old joined Bursaspor as a free agent in the summer after leaving Celtic. He told the media he had not expected such a flying start in Turkey.
“The First League is a really good and tough league. Incredible players are playing there. I didn’t expect to start this well. I want to show more of these performances as the season progresses,” Iheanacho said.
He said his main target remained a return to the top flight.
“At the end of the day, we aim to become champions and get promoted to the Süper Lig. We want to do this, and we are playing for it,” he said.

Iheanacho also spoke about his personal ambition at the club.
“Becoming a legend of a great club like Bursaspor would be a great honour for me and my family. I hope something like that happens,” he added.
He is already making history in Turkey. Against Muğlaspor on October 15, he scored in a 10th consecutive game to break the record held jointly by Galatasaray legends Metin Oktay and Saffet Sancaklı.
He then extended the run in the 4-2 win over Keçiörengücü, which lifted Bursaspor to the top of the table on 28 points from 12 matches.
Bursaspor welcome Bandırmaspor to the Centennial Atatürk Stadium on Saturday (today), and Iheanacho will look to keep his scoring run going.
