The Ekiti State House of Assembly on Wednesday screened and confirmed two commissioner-nominees presented to them by Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
The two nominees, who served in the first term and were confirmed for the second term, are Mr Dayo Apata (SAN), Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice; and Mr Akintunde Oyebode, Commissioner for Finance.
The House, however, rescheduled the screening of the third commissioner-nominees, Dr Oyebanji Filani (Health and Human Services), till Monday, May 2, upon his request.
These were contained in a statement in Ado Ekiti by the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Babatunde Oke.
The names of the three commissioner-designates and a request for approval for appointment of 10 Special Advisers were forwarded to the Assembly by the governor on Monday.
Oke stated that “Two commissioner-nominees, Mr Apata and Mr Oyebode, appeared before the House for screening. The Speaker, Adeoye Aribasoye, paid tribute to both nominees, noting their excellent past performance while serving as commissioners.
The Speaker observed that Mr Apata and Mr Oyebode had appeared before the House on previous occasions, either for screening or for presentation of accounts of stewardship, and were therefore well known to members.
“In view of their proven records and familiarity with the House, the Speaker urged members to ‘allow them to take a bow and go’. Members unanimously agreed, and the nominees were permitted to bow and go.

“The House thereafter considered their nominations and confirmed them accordingly as Commissioner designates.
“The Speaker also read a letter from another commissioner nominee, Dr Oyebanni Filani, informing the House of his inability to attend the scheduled screening today (Wednesday) and requesting a rescheduling. The House granted his request and rescheduled Dr Filani’s screening to Monday, 2 November 2026.”
The House committee chairman stated that the Assembly also considered and approved the governor’s request for the appointment of 10 Special Advisers to support the effective performance of governance across key sectors.
Oke stated, “The House remains committed to expediting confirmations and legislative work in the interest of good governance and service to the people of Ekiti State.”
Oyebanji had stated, while requesting the confirmation and approval, that the proposed appointments reflected an intention to constitute key components of his administration early and ensure continuity in critical sectors of governance.
