The Kolkata Police paraded three men in shorts with ropes tied around their waists on Tuesday (October 27, 2026). The three were arrested on Monday (October 26) for allegedly parading three naked men, including two teenagers, through the streets of a Kolkata neighbourhood.

On Tuesday (October 27) morning, the police brought the accused back to the same neighbourhood where the original attack took place and forced them to walk shirtless under heavy police presence.

Footage of the police action has since gone viral on social media.

“The family that committed the crime must be tried under the law, but what the police did today is a bigger crime, because the police represent the State, not themselves as individuals. This is like saying an eye for an eye. This is the way to normalise revenge, and the police are themselves giving punishment, which the law and court should be doing,” Association for Protection of Democratic Rights (APDR) secretary Ranajit Sur told The Hindu.

Mr. Sur added that this trend should not be normalised in a civilised society, where citizens might take inspiration from the police and dispense instant justice rather than placing their faith in the legal system.

On Monday (October 26), the police arrested three men and one woman in south Kolkata’s Sarsuna area for forcing three men — including two teenagers aged 18 and 19 — to march naked through the locality. The incident was reportedly triggered when the 18-year-old was seen meeting a 13-year-old girl from the arrested persons’ family.

“They threatened my father with a gun and asked him to kill me or walk back home naked. So, we were all forced to walk back home naked and humiliated,” the 18-year-old victim said.

The teenager’s father filed a complaint at the Sarsuna Police Station, leading to the registration of a case and the arrests.
