The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) on Thursday sought better pension coverage, greater participation by digital platforms and stronger social security protections for gig workers

According to the union, the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority is in the process of widening the pension access for platform workers through the NPS e-Shramik model. This, the union stated, enables digital aggregators to facilitate enrolment.

TGPWU founder-president Shaik Salauddin said pension access should be accompanied by fair earnings, transparent contributions, and stronger social security.

He also also sought affordable savings options, portability of pension accounts and multilingual awareness campaigns to help workers understand the scheme’s benefits, risks and withdrawal rules.
