HYDERABAD

Former Balkonda MLA and Congress leader Anil Kumar Eravathri criticised former Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy and other BRS leaders for demanding the lifting of water from the Kaleshwaram project, accusing the previous BRS government of neglecting irrigation projects intended to benefit farmers of erstwhile Nizamabad district.

Reacting to the visit of Mr. Prashanth Reddy and former BRS MLAs from Nizamabad district to the Kaleshwaram project, Mr. Anil Kumar said the leaders who failed to provide additional irrigation water to farmers during their decade-long rule had no moral right to speak about Godavari waters.

He questioned why the previous government had failed to complete Packages 21 and 22, which were intended to provide irrigation facilities to the Nizamabad Rural, Balkonda, Jagtial, Korutla, Kamareddy and Yellareddy Assembly constituencies. He alleged that the BRS government had prioritised contracts and commissions over the completion of irrigation projects.

Defending the Congress government’s approach to the Kaleshwaram project, he said the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA), experts from IIT Delhi and the Central Water Commission had identified structural, design and quality-related deficiencies in the project.

Mr. Anil Kumar warned that farmers in Nizamabad district would not forgive BRS leaders if they attempted to mislead them again over irrigation issues for electoral gains.
