BJP Legislature Party leader Alleti Maheshwar Reddy urged the State government to take immediate steps to curb rising rice prices and crack down on alleged hoarding and diversion of rice by traders and millers.
The government must conduct extensive inspections at rice mills to identify irregularities and prevent the illegal stockpiling of rice, he said, and alleged that large quantities of rice worth crores of rupees were being diverted or hoarded.
The BJP leader accused the government of failing to regulate market prices effectively and called for stringent action against those involved in hoarding and urged the administration to ensure adequate market monitoring to protect consumers from inflationary pressures, he told the media on Friday.
Later, Mr. Reddy participated in the ongoing protest march led by Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender, demanding the closure of the Jawaharnagar dumpyard and said the BJP would continue its agitation and stand with residents affected by the dumpyard until a permanent solution to the issue was found.
Mr. Rajender reiterated his offer to help secure Central assistance if the government prepares a detailed project report for scientifically capping and reclaiming the dumpyard, following established waste management practices.
