In a shocking murder spree in Bengaluru, a 52-year-old man allegedly killed his wife and six members of her family over a family dispute, according to senior police officers.

The accused, identified as Indushekar, a cab driver, has been arrested by the Rajajinagar police.

The murders are believed to have been carried out between October 16 and November 3, with the bodies dumped at multiple locations on the city’s outskirts, including one near the foothills of Nandi Hills in Chickballapur.

The incident came to light after a family member of one of the deceased lodged a missing complaint at the Srirampura police station. Subsequent investigations led to Indushekhar being detained, and his statements unravelled a series of horrific murders that allegedly took place at his house near Bhashyam Circle in Rajajinagar, north Bengaluru.

The deceased have been identified as Indushekhar’s wife, Sunita (40); his mother-in-law, Roopavathi (65); his two brothers-in-law Shivakumar (30) and Shankar (44); their wives Divya (30) and Nalini (29), and Shivakumar’s son, Puneeth (7). The murders were reportedly carried out on different occasions after inviting family members to his house on separate days. The police are verifying these claims.

According to the preliminary investigation, Indushekhar allegedly used a grinding stone to kill the victims. The killings reportedly began with the murder of his wife and mother-in-law. The accused then invited other victims to his house, where he reportedly carried out the murders. He has stated that he had been planning the murders for several months and decided to execute them after his mother-in-law visited their house in mid-September, according to a police source.

“He maintained that his mother-in-law and her family used to abuse him and frequently intervene in family matters. Even during the September visit, his mother-in-law allegedly abused him repeatedly, which angered the accused,” the source told The Hindu.

Meanwhile, the police are investigating where the bodies were dumped and what assistance the accused received.
