A sweet cottage restaurant with a locavore heart.
This teeny restaurant has been delighting downtown Berry for the past 13 years. The cosy, sun-drenched room is the perfect place to split half a dozen rock oysters and some thick buttered bread before moving onto a bright salad of raw local tuna, tendrils of crisp-fried squid and creamy avocado pieces, all crunched up with cucumber and radish, and finished with a light ponzu dressing. A beautiful mess of texture and colour.
The menu, which changes every few weeks, might also feature roast and confit duck served on a slick of parsnip puree, covered in a mix of roast vegetables (beetroot, baby carrots), wilted baby kale and tender green beans. This is smart, old-school bistro cooking: local, seasonal and comforting. And nothing shows off all those aspects like a light, airy chocolate mousse with hunks of honeycomb and a tangy passionfruit sorbet.
Best for: A long Sunday lunch, after a wander around the Berry market.
