Telstra has blamed a technical glitch with its voicemail service for a series of missed calls and voicemail alerts sent to mobile phones on Wednesday evening.
Customers flooded social media sites to report confusion surrounding the mysterious arrival of missed calls and voicemail alerts.
“The really strange part is that some of these people and I haven’t even spoken or contacted each other in days,” one person said on Reddit.
“So it’s not a case of accidentally missing a call or not hearing the phone ring,” the social media post read.
“Got a text of a missed call from my daughter ... while she was standing right next to me! ... and hubby just called to say he got 2 missed called texts from me 3 minutes ago!” a startled woman declared on Facebook.
But the mystery was quickly solved when Telstra responded and apologised for the confusion, adding that its services had been fixed.
“We experienced an issue with our MessageBank service earlier today,” a Telstra spokesperson said late Wednesday.
“You might notice a number of delayed missed call and voicemail notifications arriving all at once. We’re sorry for how confusing this must be”.
The spokesperson confirmed there was no impact to Triple Zero calls.
