After a long-anticipated reopening, Sydney’s most queue-inducing chicken shop has moved from Chippendale to Enmore Road’s dining nexus. Loaded with a bigger space and more hands, owner Kay Hwang and his team are now fully equipped to feed their fanbase with Joy’s signature triple-fry that locks in spices from a three-day brine.
Juicy goodness is preserved down to the bone, and the exterior is a masterpiece of craggy micro-ridges retaining glaze without compromising on crunch.
Sauces include a fun maple, chilli and Sichuan pepper option, and burgers are boosted by a gochujang mayo that melds with American-style cheese to coat a whopping hunk of breast that manages to stay incredibly tender. A true-blue local business worth lining up for.
Good to know: The kimchi rice ball is a beaut accompaniment to your chook.
