14/20Joji
Japanese$$
Snazzy cocktails for sophisticated socialising with skyline views from the team behind Aalia and Ito.
If there was a competition for hidden entrances, Joji would win for most elusive (tip: look for the projected logo on the floor outside the lift lobby). Once you get past the strict dress code (no t-shirts, activewear or excessive tattoos on display please), it’s all about carefree sipping as you sink into banquettes with a rooftop view of the city’s twinkling night lights.
Cocktails (and yes, they have non-alcoholic options) play with east Asian flavours, such as chrysanthemum agave, strawberry yuzushu and mango sake alongside a comprehensive offering of whiskies (Japanese and non-Japanese) and sake flights.
The food menu, meanwhile, has a Japanese slant with lighter dishes including mixed sashimi or wagyu tartare on crunchy discs of potato hash. After something more substantial? Miso Murray cod with dashi butter or wagyu steak with shimeji mushrooms flamed on the hibachi can deliver.
Good to know: Happy hour, which includes an “Adulting Meal” of a burger, fries and a martini, runs Monday to Thursday 4-6pm.
