Last year’s Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year winner continues to be thrilling, from the generous hospitality led by manager and sommelier Alice Tremayne and the comfortable, picture-lined dining room, to food that’s simultaneously homely yet not. The crews behind Baba’s Place and Sixpenny took over Corner 75 in 2025 and, as the new custodians of the then-40-year-old restaurant, restored it. Their plan was simple: preserve the foundations, but electrify it with “Sydney 2026 dining” energy.

That means chef Carley Scheidegger doesn’t mess with classic Hungarian dishes, but recalibrates them with top produce and clever techniques. Pork schnitzel becomes a crumbed-to-order puffed-up masterpiece, while duck liver is whipped and piped onto fried potato and topped with orange zest – it’s a small parfait triumph. The flatbread is a textural delight; crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle and enlivened with garlic butter. Dined here in 1995? The food is still recognisable, but it’s also very coded for right now. And gee it’s delicious.

Must-order: Getting the schnitzel? Add creamed spinach and nokedli in brown butter – it’s considered the “holy trinity” order.
