KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 — TM Nxera has said its data centre campus in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, is being developed on designated land with the necessary regulatory approvals, following media reports of residents’ concerns over power transmission infrastructure and data centre development in the area.
In a statement today, the company said the project complied with the conditions imposed by the relevant authorities.
“We take these concerns seriously. The TM Nxera campus is being developed on land designated for this purpose, with the requisite approvals from the relevant authorities, and in compliance with the conditions attached to them,” it said.
TM Nxera also said the campus had incorporated sustainability measures into its design and obtained provisional GreenRE Platinum certification.
The company clarified that it neither owned nor operated the power transmission infrastructure in the area.
However, it said it would continue working with relevant parties to help address concerns raised by the surrounding community.
“TM Nxera remains committed to supporting Malaysia’s digital economy, while being a responsible neighbour to the communities around us,” it added.
Earlier today Singapore’s The Straits Times reported that some homeowners in Iskandar Puteri were considering selling their properties over concerns about nearby data centre developments and high-voltage transmission towers, including a resident who put her RM1 million home in Eco Botanic up for sale following construction of TM Nxera’s 64-megawatt facility.
Residents in nearby Nusantara Prima and Nusa Bayu had also reportedly complained about construction dust, persistent humming noises and higher temperatures, which they believed were linked to data centre developments in the area.
