Egypt’s Supreme Energy Council has discussed securing electricity supplies for 11 industrial projects, increasing power capacity for existing factories and establishing new substations to meet the needs of industrial facilities and additional production lines.

The discussions took place during the council’s 32nd meeting, held on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy in the New Administrative Capital, under the chairmanship of Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem and Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid, alongside representatives of relevant ministries, authorities and entities.

The council reviewed requests submitted by ministries, government bodies and companies concerning the provision of electricity, natural gas and water for various industrial activities, particularly energy-intensive industries, in line with Egypt’s industrial strategy and efforts to attract investment.

The 11 projects discussed included new food manufacturing facilities in Sadat City, a tyre factory in the Sokhna area, a steel manufacturing project in 10th of Ramadan City, an iron-rolling facility in Borg El Arab, an iron products manufacturing project in Sadat City, and ceramic and sanitary ware production facilities in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE).

The discussions also covered increasing electricity capacity for existing industrial projects to accommodate higher production volumes and the addition of new production lines. The council approved a number of the proposed projects and discussed the necessary arrangements for electricity and natural gas supplies.

Esmat said electricity was available to meet demand across different uses and voltage levels, stressing the government’s commitment to providing the necessary energy infrastructure to support industrial activity and economic development.

He added that the council’s decisions were aligned with Egypt’s National Energy Strategy and sustainable development plans, which aim to support industry, facilitate technology transfer and localise advanced industries.

The minister also highlighted the importance of maximising the economic returns from electricity generation and exploring alternative economic and investment opportunities related to the use of electricity and natural gas.

Egypt’s National Energy Strategy aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix to 45% by 2028, Esmat concluded.
