Shell Lubricants Egypt (SLE) has agreed to supply specialised oils and fluids for BYD vehicles, including new energy vehicles (NEVs), in a partnership with MANDREAM, the sole authorised importer and distributor of the automaker in Egypt.

The agreement expands Shell’s presence in the growing NEV market, allowing the company to supply products specifically designed for BYD’s plug-in hybrid and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. While these vehicles utilise different operating technologies than traditional engines, they still require specialised fluids for daily operation and long-term maintenance.

The companies said the collaboration enables SLE to apply its global expertise to advanced passenger car technologies, providing Egyptian consumers with products that meet evolving vehicle requirements based on quality and performance.

“This partnership brings together Shell’s global expertise in lubricants and BYD’s leadership in new energy vehicles,” Eng. Haytham Yehia, Cluster General Manager for the Middle East, Egypt and Central Asia of Shell Lubricants, and Chairman and CEO of Shell Lubricants Egypt, said in a statement.

“It is particularly significant for us as it represents a further expansion of Shell Lubricants Egypt’s business in this promising segment and a commitment to meeting the needs of BYD vehicles in Egypt. We see considerable potential in this collaboration to bring our technology to motorists choosing these vehicles, providing high-quality oils and fluids that help maintain vehicle performance and protect engines during everyday use,” Yehia added.

MANDREAM CEO Khaled Youssef said the agreement would support the distributor’s plans to accommodate the rapid development of the country’s electric and hybrid vehicle sector.

“We believe in the importance of building strategic partnerships with leading international companies to support our expansion plans and enhance the value we deliver to our customers,” Youssef said. “Our partnership with Shell Lubricants Egypt builds on this approach, bringing us together with a partner that offers global expertise and advanced technological solutions. This supports our vision for an integrated after-sales service network, helps us keep pace with the rapid development of Egypt’s electric and hybrid vehicle sector, and supports the continued expansion of our network of technology centres.”
