Sen. Chris Murphy remained hospitalized Tuesday after suffering a stroke over the weekend, his office confirmed.
"He's continuing to improve and heartened by the outpouring of well wishes," Josh Sorbe, Murphy's communications director, told CNBC in an emailed statement. "He early voted in Connecticut, and he encourages everyone to make their voices heard today by voting and sending a message in this defining election."
His office did not offer additional details when asked about his status or his expected recovery.
The Senate is due back in session Monday following Tuesday's midterm elections.
Murphy began experiencing stroke symptoms on Saturday while at his son's hockey game, his chief of staff Allison Herwitt said in a statement Sunday.
"He was taken to a local hospital, where it was discovered he had experienced a stroke. He was transferred to Johns Hopkins for further monitoring and is responding well to treatment," Herwitt said.
Herwitt said at the time that Murphy was "awake and alert."
Johns Hopkins Hospital's main campus is in Baltimore, though it has other locations in and around Washington.
Murphy is not up for reelection on Tuesday but had been traveling extensively this fall in support of Democratic candidates. Murphy came to the Senate in 2013 after a six-year stint in the U.S. House. He's also been mentioned as a potential 2028 presidential candidate.
