EXCLUSIVE: Rome Flynn (Godfather of Harlem, How to Get Away With Murder) has joined the cast of Throttled, Amazon MGM Studios‘ new romance film based on the first book in Lauren Asher’s bestselling Dirty Air series.
From screenwriter Melissa Osborne and director Nzingha Stewart, Throttled stars Nicole Wallace as Maya Alatorre, an ambitious young woman who joins her brother on the racing circuit and falls into a forbidden, high-stakes romance with her brother’s ruthless teammate and fiercest racing rival, Noah Slade (Josh Heuston). Julio Peña will play Santi Alatorre, Maya’s older brother and a driver on the racing circuit. Mia McKenna-Bruce will play Sophie, Maya’s best friend.
Flynn will portray Jax Kingston, a highly skilled and competitive driver for Team McCoy who shares a particularly tense rivalry with Noah Slade, sources close to production tell Deadline.
Max Handelman and Elizabeth Banks of Brownstone Productions are producing alongside Ethea Entertainment’s Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay, with Garret Grant also producing. Alison Small of Brownstone Productions and Lauren Asher are executive producing.
Flynn’s most recent projects include Apple TV+’s Imperfect Women, playing Kerry Washington’s love interest, Jordan, and the four-episode anthology series Side Quest, a spinoff of Mythic Quest expanding on how games affect people in different ways. He can currently be seen as Frank Lucas (previously portrayed by Denzel Washington in American Gangster) in MGM+’s fourth season of Godfather of Harlem, opposite Forest Whitaker. Flynn is repped by Artium Talent and Weiner Management.
