KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 — Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli said he has been summoned to Bukit Aman today to give a statement over remarks concerning an alleged corporate mafia and a RM9.5 million payment linked to PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.

In a Facebook statement yesterday, Rafizi said he had been instructed to appear at 10am for investigations under Sections 500 and 505 of the Penal Code, which concern criminal defamation and statements conducive to public mischief, respectively.

The Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) leader said the investigation stemmed from a police report lodged on October 22 over a speech he delivered in Selayang two days earlier, during which he also discussed the court case involving former Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.

“I respect that the investigating officers are carrying out their duties as directed,” he said, adding that he would cancel his campaign event in Melaka and return to Kuala Lumpur to give his statement.

Rafizi alleged that the PKR-led government was using the same legal provisions previously invoked against him to intimidate him whenever he raised allegations concerning the purported corporate mafia and Ramanan.

He compared the latest investigation with previous legal proceedings he faced after raising issues involving 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), Tabung Haji, Felda and the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC).

Rafizi claimed he had been acquitted in the cases he referred to, although he was previously convicted under the Official Secrets Act in a separate 1MDB-related case.

He also challenged Ramanan to take legal action against him if the minister wished to clear his name over the RM9.5 million bribery allegation, which Ramanan has denied.

Rafizi said he had initiated legal action against Ramanan over the dispute, having previously challenged him to pursue the matter in court.

He maintained that Bersama would continue raising concerns about the alleged corporate mafia despite the legal pressure.

“I believe time will show that we from BERSAMA have fulfilled our responsibility to help the community eradicate corporate mafia while other parties remain silent, even if forced to face such legal pressure,” he said.
