Qatar’s Court of Cassation has acquitted Abdullah Al-Shaheen and other defendants in a subsidiary case arising from the dispute known as the “Egyptian Steel” case, overturning previous convictions issued in absentia and dismissing the Public Prosecution’s appeal.

The court issued its final and binding ruling on October 26, 2026, in Criminal Cassation Appeals Nos. 1444 and 1532 of 2026, bringing proceedings before the country’s highest court in this subsidiary case to a close.

The ruling follows an earlier judgment issued on October 6, 2025, in the main case related to the Egyptian Steel Group dispute, which also resulted in favourable judicial outcomes for Al-Shaheen and other defendants.

In its reasoning, the Court of Cassation took into account the findings and legal conclusions reached in the main case and their implications for the legal basis of the charges in the subsequent proceedings. It ultimately overturned the previous convictions and acquitted Al-Shaheen and his co-defendants.

The latest judgment marks a further development in the legal proceedings stemming from the Egyptian Steel dispute, concluding litigation in this subsidiary case before the Court of Cassation and determining the defendants’ legal position regarding the charges covered by the ruling.

Al-Shaheen is a Kuwaiti businessman and managing board member of Qatar-based State Holding Group, one of the major shareholders and strategic partners in Egyptian Steel.
