MELAKA, Oct 31 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) has denied claims by Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai that the coalition was involved in the issue surrounding the deregistration of Perikatan Nasional (PN) by the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
Melaka PKR State Leadership Council acting chairman Adam Adli Abd Halim clarified that PH had nothing to do with the problems faced by other parties, describing them instead as their own internal issues.
He said PH remained committed to the principles of clean democracy and was focused solely on serving the people and presenting its offer to voters for their mandate.
“We dismiss the allegation. This has nothing to do with us; it is not a strategy, and we are not involved at all. That is their internal conflict.
“Here, we have made it clear that the contest in Melaka is a democratic process that gives the people and voters the opportunity to decide on the state government they want. It has nothing to do with any unrelated political disputes,” he said.
He said this at a press conference at the PH main operations room, which was also attended by PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Meanwhile, Adam Adli also criticised certain quarters for launching personal attacks and belittling the capabilities of the coalition’s young candidates.
He described the act of looking down on young candidates as unproductive and contrary to the aspiration of nurturing the country’s next generation of leaders.
He said PH had given young people the opportunity to lead based on merit and their current capabilities, without having to wait until they were older.
“We talk about young people as future leaders, but in Pakatan Harapan, we believe in their strength and ability to lead today. They do not have to wait until they are older before being given the opportunity.
“Therefore, we hope voters, particularly young voters out there, will take the time to assess what the young candidates we are fielding this time have to offer,” he said.
The Election Commission has set November 14 as polling day for the Melaka polls, while early voting will take place on November 10.
