The Embassy of Pakistan in Cairo observed Jammu and Kashmir Black Day on 27 October, commemorating nearly eight decades since Indian forces landed in Srinagar on 27 October 1947.

Addressing the commemorative event, speakers from various backgrounds, including journalists, academics and students, condemned what they described as the unilateral and illegal actions of 5 August 2019, highlighting alleged human rights violations, demographic changes and restrictions on fundamental freedoms affecting the Kashmiri people.

Speakers stressed that the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) continue to be denied their right to self-determination, which Pakistan says is guaranteed under relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s moral, political and diplomatic support for the Kashmiri people, participants called on the international community and human rights organisations to step up their engagement, address the humanitarian situation in IIOJK and work towards a just and peaceful resolution in accordance with UN resolutions.

They also pledged to continue raising the Kashmir issue at international forums.

In his remarks, Pakistan’s Ambassador paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the Kashmiri people in their pursuit of justice, peace and dignity.

He said that generations of Kashmiris had demonstrated resilience and steadfast courage despite prolonged hardships and the continued detention of political activists.
