SHAH ALAM, Oct 21 — No patients or hospital staff were involved in a ceiling collapse incident at the Emergency and Trauma Department of Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang yesterday, the Selangor State Health Department (JKNS) said.

The incident occurred at 7.15pm along the pathway in front of the department’s Blue Zone.

In a statement, JKNS said preliminary investigations found that a leaking pipe in the ceiling had weakened the structure, causing it to collapse.

“Following the incident, safety measures were implemented immediately. The affected pathway was cordoned off, and alternative routes were activated for the movement of patients and staff at HTAR’s Emergency and Trauma Department.

“Cleaning and repair works, as well as a detailed technical investigation, were carried out by the concessionaire to ensure a safe environment,” it said.

JKNS said the repair works had been completed and the pathway reopened at 2.30 am today, with services at the department continuing to operate as usual without disruption.

The department said it remained committed to prioritising the safety of patients, visitors and healthcare workers. — Bernama
