Nashville SC set a new single-season MLS points record after reaching 77 points with its win over FC Cincinnati on the final day of the regular season on Saturday.

Nashville went into its finale tied with Inter Miami's historic tally of 74 points, set in the its first full season with with Argentina star Lionel Messi in 2024.

Top scorer Sam Surridge made sure of topping Miami's mark with his 20th and 21st goals of the season in the second half to give Nashville a 2-0 victory.

"It's a massive achievement for the club, for us as players, and yeah, it's going to go down in history, and I think that was the message before the game" Surridge said.

"It's hard to kind of keep the momentum going all season when you win something and then to go again. But we had that motivation to create history."

As well as points, Nashville also set records for most wins (23), fewest losses (three), fewest goals conceded (25) and most home wins (15). It tied the mark for most shutouts, with 17.

The 2020 expansion team never suffered back-to-back losses in all competitions, across MLS, the Leagues Cup and Concacaf Champions Cup.

Nashville, which now heads into the playoffs on a 10-game unbeaten run, clinched the Supporters' Shield trophy for the best-regular season record secured two weeks ago.

Coached by former U.S. men's national team assistant and interim head coach B.J. Callaghan, Nashville finished a record 13 points clear of nearest challenger, the Vancouver Whitecaps.

After boasting a dominant 15W-0L-2D record at home while outscoring opponents 48-14, the club will have homefield advantage throughout the playoffs.
