A New Hampshire fugitive who had been on the run for almost a year was captured in neighboring Massachusetts this week after one last frantic attempt to evade police, law enforcement agencies said.

Daquhan Cromer, 29, was taken into custody shortly after noon Wednesday in Lowell, a day after he dodged police in Salem, New Hampshire on Tuesday night, officials said.

Cromer was “wanted on an escape warrant from New Hampshire State Prison and in connection with multiple felonies in Salem,” authorities in that New Hampshire town said.

His flight prompted a shelter-in-place order in Salem night on Tuesday night, which was lifted by Wednesday morning.

He was surrounded by police almost 15 miles away in Lowell, where he surrendered without incident, officials said.

“Through different investigative methods, they were able to track him down to a residence,” Salem police Lt. Robert Kirley told reporters. “And once they got to that residence, they were looking for him and he was inside.”

Cromer had fled a halfway house in Manchester, New Hampshire, in December 2025, NBC Boston reported.
