Nearly three-quarters of Taiwanese have a negative view of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), including more than half of Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) supporters, polling expert Tai Li-an (戴立安) said yesterday.
Since Tai began his monthly survey of the issue in 2015, the proportion of Taiwanese who view the CCP unfavorably has remained consistently high at 60 to 70 percent.
This month’s survey found that 73.5 percent viewed the CCP unfavorably, unchanged from last month, while 8.9 percent viewed it favorably, up 1.4 percentage points from last month.

A cross-analysis found widespread antipathy toward the CCP across all age groups and demographics, with unfavorable views exceeding 75 percent among women, residents of central Taiwan and the Changhua-Nantou-Taichung area, people in the Kaohsiung-Pingtung region, adults aged 20 to 49, those with a university degree or higher, and pan-green supporters.
Among pan-blue camp supporters, 53.7 percent viewed the CCP unfavorably while 30.2 percent viewed it favorably.
Among KMT supporters, 50.3 percent viewed it unfavorably and 34 percent viewed it favorably.
Even among staunch “deep-blue” voters who favor the KMT and hold unfavorable views of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), 46.8 percent viewed the CCP unfavorably while 40.9 percent viewed it favorably.
Among politically neutral respondents, just 3.1 percent viewed the CCP favorably, while 62.5 percent expressed unfavorable views.
A cross-analysis showed that 66.1 percent of respondents who viewed Taiwan’s current economic conditions negatively also held unfavorable views of the CCP. Among those dissatisfied with President William Lai’s (賴清德) performance, 60.4 percent viewed the CCP unfavorably, while 19.4 percent expressed favorable views.
As for preferences ahead of next month’s local elections, 28.5 percent of respondents who wanted their city or county to be governed by the KMT viewed the CCP favorably, while 59.0 percent viewed it unfavorably. Among those who preferred DPP rule, just 1.0 percent had a favorable view of the CCP, while an overwhelming 94.5 percent expressed unfavorable views.
The survey was conducted from Tuesday to Thursday last week, polling 1,075 residents aged 20 or older, with 696 called via landline and 379 via mobile phones.
The survey questionnaire was designed and the data analyzed by Tai, while Beacon Market Research conducted the telephone interviews.
