Democratic Rep. Chris Pappas and former Republican Sen. John E. Sununu compete Tuesday to succeed New Hampshire's retiring Sen. Jeanne Shaheen.

Pappas has represented the state's 1st District since 2019. If elected, he would be the first openly gay man in the Senate.
