SEOUL, Oct. 28 (Yonhap) -- The presidential office convened an emergency meeting Wednesday to discuss responses after hacking attacks on multiple financial firms led to customer data breaches.

Song Ki-ho, vice chief of Cheong Wa Dae's National Security Office, presided over the meeting and reviewed government responses to the recent series of cyberattacks, the presidential office said.

Mirae Asset Global Investments, crypto exchange Bithumb and Daishin Securities all reported data breaches involving customer information earlier Wednesday following separate recent hacking attacks.

Attended by officials from the Financial Services Commission, the science ministry, the personal information protection watchdog and other cybersecurity-related institutions, the meeting reviewed progress in government investigations into the hacking cases and the response measures taken, the presidential office said.

The officials also discussed measures to prevent phishing scams using leaked personal information and to trace the routes of similar cyberattacks to prevent further hacking incidents, according to Cheong Wa Dae.

Officials from the participating institutions agreed to rapidly share information on future hacking attacks and the results of the investigation into the recent cases while maintaining close cooperation.

"I ask you to make utmost efforts to respond rapidly to hacking attacks in the financial sector and prevent secondary damage as such incidents are directly related to the public's property and financial trust," the presidential office quoted Song as saying.
