Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy, The Abandons) has joined the recurring cast of the Fox medical series Best Medicine for Season 2. Her episodes will air later this season.

Sagal will play Kathleen Gavin, Louisa’s (Abigail Spencer) estranged mother and the only person in the world who’s not welcome in Port Wenn. Combative, conniving, and always looking out for herself, Kathleen unexpectedly returns to town after a long absence, sending Louisa’s life into chaos. Martin (Josh Charles) quickly discovers there’s a reason why the people of Port Wenn refer to her as “Shady Katie.”

Based on the popular British series Doc Martin, Best Medicine is a one-hour comedy series that centers on Martin Best, a brilliant surgeon who abruptly leaves his illustrious career in Boston to become the general practitioner in a quaint East Coast fishing village where he spent summers as a child.

Unfortunately, Martin’s blunt and borderline rude bedside manner rubs the quirky, needy locals the wrong way, especially local school teacher Louisa Glasson; however, tenacity is the creed of everyone in their small village, and the people who live there may be exactly what the doctor ordered.

The ensemble cast also includes Annie Potts, Josh Segarra, and Cree.

Owned by Fox Entertainment, Best Medicine is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios and is distributed by Fox Entertainment Global. Ben Silverman (The Office, U.S.), Rodney Ferrell (Stick), Howard T. Owens (Stick), Liz Tuccillo (Sex and the City), Mark Crowdy (Doc Martin), Philippa Braithwaite (Doc Martin), Jay Karas, and Charles executive produce. Tuccillo also serves as showrunner.

Sagal is repped by CAA and B&B Management.
