JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 6 — The Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has recorded 2,373 offences, with seizures amounting to over RM11.6 million, from the start of the year until yesterday.
Johor KPDN director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said that of this total, 1,774 cases involved offences under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.
She said among the offences were the failure to display clear price tags or price lists for goods or services, selling controlled items above the stipulated maximum price and raising prices or profiteering in an unreasonable manner.
“During the same period, Johor KPDN also recorded 360 offences under the Weights and Measures Act 1972, 119 cases under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and 66 offences under the Consumer Protection Act 1999,” she said during a state-level Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) launch in conjunction with Deepavali 2026 at NSK Trade City in Skudai here today.
Lilis Saslinda said the ministry also detected 54 other offences under the Trademarks Act 2019, the Trade Descriptions Act 2011, the Copyright Act 1987 and the Hire-Purchase Act 1967.
She noted that 879 offences were also detected out of 1,537 inspections conducted at the wholesale and retail levels during the implementation of the SHMMP for this year’s Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
Lilis Saslinda said the most frequently detected offense was the failure to display the required pink price tags for controlled items.
She urged traders to adhere to four key obligations during the SHMMP implementation: not selling controlled items above the maximum price, displaying pink price tags for controlled items, ensuring an adequate supply of goods in the market, and using approved weighing instruments and measuring scales.
“The Johor chapter of the ministry has taken proactive measures by intensifying advocacy efforts directed at traders.
“These were made through announcements on official social media channels, the distribution of leaflets on the list of controlled goods, as well as the responsibilities and obligations of traders,” she said.
In addition to the implementation of the SHMMP, Johor KPDN is continuing the Jualan Rahmah Madani outdoor initiative programme in conjunction with the festival at selected locations.
The programme begins today at Target Supermarket in Yong Peng, Batu Pahat, the Benut multipurpose hall in Pontian, the Kota Tinggi Tourism and Transformation Centre and the IOI Mall Kulai field on November 7 and 8.
