SURAT THANI - Authorities on Koh Phangan have revoked the visa of an Israeli woman after complaints that she engaged in improper and aggressive behaviour on several occasions while working on the island.
Ensav Ashual, 33, was said to have made assault threats and used rude language against authorities and others, according to a committee set up to monitor the behaviour of foreigners on the tourist island in Koh Samui.
The woman was also accused of refusing to pay for accommodation and entrance fees at Than Sadet Ko Phangan National Park, according to the panel.
Ms Ashual worked on the island as an art therapist and breathwork guide among other occupations. The committee did not specify what kind of visa she held. It was believed to be a work visa, as Israeli nationals can visit Thailand visa-free for 30 days for tourism but are not allowed to work.
Ms Ashual is the third Israeli national on Koh Phangan to have a visa withdrawn. Ten foreigners on the island have had their visas revoked since January.
The committee that rules on complaints is headed by Koh Phangan district chief Phaisit Thongjerm. Other members include tourist police and local administrative officials.
New regulations that took effect in late August clarified the procedural framework for deporting two categories of foreign nationals: those whose conduct is deemed to threaten public order, good morals or public wellbeing, and those convicted of specific offences including illegal entry, employment or business operations.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul last month told provincial governors and district chiefs they need not wait for errant foreigners to be punished in Thailand because keeping them in the country uses up national resources.
Governors could even advance airfares and claim repayment for the sake of quick departures, he said.
