Egypt’s Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem inspected the facilities of Arab International Optronics (AIO), reviewing its manufacturing capabilities and technological solutions supporting infrastructure, energy and smart city projects.

During the visit, Hashem toured the company’s factories and production lines, examining a range of products and technologies, including smart security and surveillance systems, smart poles and urban solutions, energy-efficient lighting, solar panels and systems, electronics, smart meters, and specialised medical devices.

The minister was received by Ramzy Ragai El-Sheikh, Chairperson of Arab International Optronics, and Ayman El-Bayaa, Assistant Minister of Industry for Digital Transformation and Executive Director of the Industrial Modernisation Centre.

Hashem also reviewed the company’s laboratory facilities, which are accredited by the Egyptian National Accreditation Council (EGAC). The laboratories conduct specialised technical testing and calibration and issue reports within the scope of their accreditation.

The visit included a briefing on the company’s technical training programmes aimed at developing specialised skills in electronics manufacturing. These include an internationally recognised training programme that prepares engineers, technicians, and production workers to obtain the Certified IPC Specialist (CIS) certification.

The programme focuses on applying international standards to assess the quality of electronic assemblies and verify that soldering and assembly processes meet required quality standards.

Meeting with engineers and technicians undergoing training at the company, Hashem stressed the importance of skilled workers to industrial competitiveness and sustainability, describing qualified engineers, technicians, and workers as the key to industrial success.

Hashem said that electronics, technological solutions, and solar energy systems are among the industries targeted for integration into global supply chains and identified as enabling industries under Egypt’s Industrial Strategy 2030.

The ministry is working to strengthen domestic capabilities in these sectors to meet local market demand and expand export opportunities, he added.

Egypt is seeking to strengthen its position in advanced technology manufacturing and narrow the gap with leading industrial economies by adopting modern technologies and localising them in the domestic market, Hashem noted.

He also highlighted Arab International Optronics’ role in supporting the government’s efforts to deepen local manufacturing, localise technology, and strengthen Egypt’s industrial production capabilities.

The Ministry of Industry aims to enhance integration with national industrial institutions and increase the domestic value added of their products, he added.

Established in 1982 as an Egyptian joint-stock company, Arab International Optronics was founded to manufacture high-technology optical devices and equipment.

The company represents a model of industrial cooperation combining Egyptian expertise with international technology, supporting the development of technical and manufacturing capabilities, knowledge transfer, and technology localisation.
