Jennifer Welch and Angie Sullivan of the “I’ve Had It” podcast have issued an apology after facing backlash for laughing at a joke about Charlie Kirk during their latest episode, released on Thursday.
“On Thursday’s show, we laughed at a joke about Charlie Kirk. It was an insensitive joke, and we should not have laughed. We regret it, and we apologize,” they wrote in a statement shared on the podcast’s Instagram Saturday. “Whatever our political differences, there is nothing funny about gun violence. We’ve long supported common-sense gun safety reform. To that end, we’ve made a donation to Everytown for Gun Safety, the largest gun violence prevention organization in America.”
During the Thursday episode, the hosts had read social media posts made following the 2026 midterm election results. They read one that said, “We’re digging up Charlie Kirk and doing it again,” and both laughed. (That segment of the Thursday episode has since been cut out, but was reshared online.)
“We’ll keep using our platforms to fight for the safety of all Americans,” Welch and Sullivan concluded in the joint statement.
Several of the podcasts’ advertisers have since pulled their support of the progressive comedic podcast.
Cash App announced it was no longer a sponsor on Friday, writing, “We do not condone violence of any kind, and we are no longer sponsors of this podcast in a post on X. Chewy put out a statement claiming it “does not sponsor or support” the podcast. It read: “We unequivocally condemn violence in all forms. The comments made by the hosts do not reflect Chewy’s values or what we stand for as a company.”
