Gerry Cardinale’s RedBird Capital Partners and Guy Oseary’s venture capital firm Sound Ventures are partnering to invest $1 billion in emerging platforms at the convergence of tech, media and culture.
The firms said the partnership “will capitalize on RedBird’s global reach and business-building expertise, alongside Sound’s access to founders and marketing acumen to pursue growth opportunities and support the world’s most consequential technology companies.”
RedBird will also bring learnings from RedBird X, the firm’s AI investment and incubation platform headed by Hamid Biglari.
“The next great technology companies and the entrepreneur founders behind them need versatile partners who understand the long-term trajectory of company building,” said RedBird founder and managing partner Cardinale.
Sound Ventures was an early investor in Anthropic and OpenAI. “RedBird brings a different kind of outlook that complements what we have built at Sound, with the resources and scale to compound the impact of our investments,” said Oseary, the longtime music manager and entrepreneur who co-founded Sound Ventures in 2015.
“Effie and I are excited to work closely with Gerry, Hamid and the RedBird team as we continue to back exceptional founders and companies, building out this differentiated investment platform together,” he said, referring to Effie Epstein, managing partner of Sound Ventures.
RedBird, which focuses on the sports, media and entertainment space, and is a large investor in Skydance alongside the Ellison Family. It manages over $21 billion in assets.
Los Angeles-based Sound Ventures’ other investments have included Airbnb, GitLab, Hugging Face, Robinhood, Spotify, Uber and World Labs. The firm has over $2 billion in assets.
